Got my blood pressure manually checked today: 122/72. Almost okay under AHA guidelines. Never put too much trust in those self-test things in drug stores, they can be really off.

I’ve been using this Google Maps Pedometer website to measure my running distance this month, it’s pretty cool. Day 24 of my August Plan, I think I skipped two days more, but I made them up with extra long runs the day after.

It’s August 15th, time to check up on my own status. I’ve run between one and two miles for 13 out of the last 15 days, and the two days I skipped I ran at least two miles the day afterwards. So I’m pretty happy with my progress so far. The running has gotten a lot easier and my breathing is pretty much controlled the whole time. No more hacking or wheezing
I’ve been trying to maintain this reasonable load as to not get too sore or break anything. That said, I did skip one of the two days because my hip joint was really hurting as well as my knees. I don’t think it’s anything chronic, mostly just all that weight on my poor knees! Hope to finish out the month strong.

Remember Forrest Gump running across the country, just “Cause I felt like runn-ing”? Well, FatManWalking just finished walking across America. Wow.

I’ve started jogging again, and have run for about a mile a day for about half the days of July. My goal for August is to run at least a mile every day in August. So far so good after two days.
I may reward myself with that new Nike + iPod thing if I can reach 200 lbs.

I have tentatively upgraded to Wordpress, after much sweat and tears. Please let me know if you see anything wrong, like 404 errors.

Yes, I am a pathetic health blogger. I am currently at, let’s see… 213 lbs. It’s officially spring so I can no longer blame the wet and cold on my sedentary lifestyle. If I didn’t have a dog I’d probably not even walk my 1/2-mile a day.

Ok, so nobody is going to confuse a cookie from Mrs. Fields for health food. There’s a reason why it tastes so good.
How much fat do you think is in one Milk Chocolate and Walnut cookie? 5 grams? 10 grams? Turns out it has 17 grams of fat, with 9g of it saturated. That’s 45% of your RDA of saturated fat in one cookie, which is more than that in a 12-ounce sirloin steak. So there you have it: one 2 oz. cookie is worse than a 12 oz. steak.

Wow, it’s nice to have some sort of exercise to blog about. Just spent another day on the slopes, this time I tried skiing. I haven’t done it in a while, but it wasn’t so bad - nothing broken or swollen, just sore.
I wanted to estimate how many calories I burned - so I tried this Fitwatch calculator I found online. For light downhill skiing, 210 lbs, 4 hours of actualy skiing (not lift time), I burned an estimated 2000 calories! Not bad! If only I didn’t have a chili dog for lunch…

My triceps are sore, my quads are sore, the muscles on top of my shins are sore, but I’m still grinning! I love snowboarding, it’s like exercise but you don’t even realize it because you’re having so much fun. If you have never snowboarded or skied before, I definitely recommend doing skiing first. My wife snowboarded for the first time last time we went, and hated it. Spent most of the time on her tush.
She tried skiing for the first time yesterday, and was turning AND making it down the hill without falling at all by the end of the day! It helped that she knew how to roller skate, I think. If only the mountain was closer, I would have no problem doing this 4 times a week. Crisp outdoor moutain air, great scenery, a lift to bring you up the mountain, who could ask for more?
