Drinking Water to Lose Weight

One of the best tips I’ve heard about eating less is to drink lots of water. I must refill by Brita pitcher three times a day now at least. I really like the taste of (filtered) water, and it does fill you up more and get you to drink less soda, juice, etc. However, drunk alone it definitely doesn’t fool my stomach into thinking I already ate. My stomach still grumbles when it’s hungry. But if eaten in conjunction with food, it does a pretty good job of making me feel full sooner, which lets me eat less.

Exercise Recently:

    Hey J

Thanks for visiting my site and I am now returning the favour!

I drink 2litres of water a day and a I reckon it helps reduce bloating- and just think of the extra cals burned up running to the bathroom every five mins!

The more I read about drinking a lot of water, the more it seems like it’s just a myth. Here’s a pretty well-written article:

    8 Glasses a Day Article

If you do a search on Google using the terms drinking water myth you’ll get a lot of results, if you want to read more. What was more important to me to keep hydrated was actually sea salt. It helps you hold on to the water you do drink. I was drinking about a gallon a day at one point and still feeling totally parched, wondering what I was doing wrong. As soon as I slowed down the water consumption some and added a moderate amount of sea salt to an occassional glass of water, I finally felt hydrated. It’s estimated that up to 10% of Americans are constantly dehydrated, it’s a condition called mitral valve prolapse which means you have low blood volume (which is really just dehydration). The whole problem isn’t that they’re not drinking, it’s that they’re not holding on to what they’re drinking, and salt helps most of them. I really don’t think I would have believed most of this if I hadn’t tried it myself and it worked. The moderate salt intake, too, somehow can lower your blood pressure. It worked that way for me, too, mine’s now about 110/70 consistently.

Geez, between this and mymoneyblog, I think I’ve found a me on the left coast! Except the married thing, but I’m enjoying life anyway.

One thing that helps me get the extra water in is to flavor it. Try some Green Teas and add some Spelnda if you are a southerner craving sweetness in your tea like I do. Just try to ease off the Splenda over time.

The other thing is to head to the grocery store, Wal-Mart, Target, etc and pick up some of the store brand version of Crystal Light drink mix. Sitting in a cubicle all day, I dump one of these into a 16.9 oz bottled water and find it a lot easier to drink. I’m tracking my calories, protein, carbs, and fat intake, and these little packets have 0 each!
