Stress and Weight Gain

I’m back from a week or so of eating out and often, but the damage isn’t so bad. I’m back up to 212 lbs. We’ll see what I can do about that after hitting the gym today. Apparently stress encourages weight gain, I used to think stressed out people would eat less and lose weight. Per this About.com article,

The so-called “stress hormone” cortisol is released in the body during times of stress… Cortisol has many actions in the body, and one ultimate goal of cortisol secretion is the provision of energy for the body. The end result of these actions is an increase in appetite… with the end result being weight gain or difficulty losing unwanted pounds. Experts agree that stress management is a critical part of weight loss regimens… Exercise is the best and fastest method for weight loss in this case.

I guess that makes sense. Back on the saddle I go.

Cortisol can be a MAJOR problem, definitely. There are a few herbs that help, holy basil can help even if taken in a small amount. Also, taking a few grams of vitamin C a day can help a lot (it’s also good for a lot more than that).
